On Friday, a Bhopal Court sent former judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh to CBI custody for five days in connection with the death of Twisha Sharma, a newly married woman who was found dead at her Bhopal residence earlier this month. The order comes a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled Giribala Singh's anticipatory bail, allowing the investigating agency to take both accused into custody for further probe.

Twisha Sharma, a Noida resident, had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh about five months before her death after the two met through a dating application. Following her death on May 12, Sharma's family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to continuous harassment and domestic abuse linked to dowry demands. Based on these allegations, an FIR was registered at Katara Hills police station.

While a sessions court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh on the ground that the primary allegations were directed against her son, the protection was later set aside by the High Court. Samarth Singh had also approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest after being denied anticipatory bail, but subsequently withdrew his plea.

After their arrest by the CBI, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh were produced before Judge Shobhana Bhalawe. The court remanded both accused to CBI custody until June 2 to facilitate further investigation into the allegations surrounding Twisha Sharma's death. The development follows the High Court's intervention against the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh and marks a significant step in the ongoing probe into the alleged dowry-related death.

The court ordered that the accused remain in CBI custody for "five days" for investigation purposes.
